Plastic surgery of the external ear, known as Otoplasty, is a procedure to change the shape, position or size of the ears. Dr. Farzad R. Nahai, and Dr. Foad Nahai at The Center for Plastic Surgery at Metroderm, P.C. are board-certified surgeons who have performed this surgery many times.

Candidates for Otoplasty

A candidate for this elective surgery generally feels that his/her ears stick out too far or their ears are too large for their head. Some individuals have deformed ears due to an accident or birth defect. This surgery, when performed by an expert surgeon like Dr. Farzad R. Nahai, and Dr. Foad Nahai, can help increase a patient’s confidence and satisfaction with his/her personal appearance. Otoplasty does not change the position of the ears or affect hearing, and the surgery is generally done on both ears for symmetry.

The Consultation

Before the surgery, Dr. Farzad R. Nahai, and Dr. Foad Nahai conducts a complete examination and discusses aesthetic goals with the patient. They discuss the anesthesia and make recommendations about which would be best for you. He explains what he will do in the surgery and fully answers any questions you may have. He does not rush his patients or pressure them in any way.

What to Expect in Surgery

The day of surgery, you will receive a medicine to relax you and anesthesia.  The surgery will be performed. Internal stitches are put in place to secure the newly-shaped cartilage in place.  External stitches used to close the incision are placed inconspicuously. Dr. Farzad R. Nahai, and Dr. Foad Nahai have an excellent technique that results in a natural look.  Before you go home, Dr. Farzad R. Nahai, and Dr. Foad Nahai will provide thorough post-surgery instructions.
