Nurse Injectors: Trained, Talented, and Passionate

photo of nurse injector injecting Botox into a patient's upper cheekNurse injectors are part of the team at MetroDerm. Like all the professionals there, nurse injectors are carefully selected for their knowledge and skill. Only highly-qualified individuals with experience in the fields of non-surgical cosmetic procedures, facial fillers, and facial rejuvenation techniques practice at The Center for Plastic Surgery at MetroDerm, P.C.

Specializing in Skin

Nurse injectors typically start with a nursing degree because they love their patients and want to help them feel better. Eventually, a potential nurse injector decides to specialize in skin care and rejuvenation. Anti-aging products and procedures become their passion.

Nurse injectors sometimes known as nurse aestheticians want to help their patients look their best which boosts self-confidence and self-image. Great skin can be a personal and professional asset.

Learning the Art of Injection

Once certified as a nurse, injectors go through rigorous training to gain experience. Much of that is accomplished by working with industry professionals and product representatives. Board-certified doctors mentor nurse injectors to teach them about the muscles and anatomy of the skin and face. There are numerous certificates to pursue and obtain.

Skin Science

The science of skin care and skin renewal is broad and wide. Good injectors also have a comprehensive knowledge of product chemistry, lasers, peels, and facials. Helping patients look their best requires extensive education, training, and commitment.

Good communication skills are also paramount for nurse injectors. It’s important to listen carefully as a patient communicates his/her aesthetic goals. Once the goals are established, the injector must help each individual select the right treatment protocol. They help you understand your skin and get the procedures and products you need to have radiant, young-looking skin.

The Center for Plastic Surgery at MetroDerm is proud to have experienced and talented nurse injectors who offer a full-range of injectable products:

Injectables: Botox® Cosmetic and/or Dysport®

photo of beautiful mature African American woman | InjectablesIn order to temporarily smooth lines on the forehead, frown lines between the eyes, and crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes, most individuals choose Botox® Cosmetic and/or Dysport® injectables, two simple, nonsurgical anti-aging treatments.

At The Center for Plastic Surgery at MetroDerm in Atlanta, GA, Farzad R. Nahai, M.D. offers both of these fine injectable products. It’s easy to make an appointment, treatment is quick, and the results are remarkable. Most people go back to work or normal activities right away, so downtime is minimal. At MetroDerm, you are in the hands of an expert aesthetic doctor.

Before treating you the first time, Dr. Nahai discusses your medical history and the procedure, its risks, and possible side effects. He will also instruct you about after care. During this consultation, you will have ample time to discuss your concerns and ask any questions you may have. Since the medications are priced by the unit, the cost depends upon the size of area and number of areas you wish to have treated. Dr. Nahai will discuss the cost with you before he begins treatment. To make ongoing treatment more affordable, you can become a member of the Brilliant Distinctions® rewards program to receive monetary certificates for use on future treatments.

Botox® Cosmetic and/or Dysport® are trusted products. Women and men have embraced this simple aesthetic procedure because it smooths out the areas of the face that can make us look older and even angry. A treatment, which takes about 5 minutes and consists of a few tiny injections, relaxes the muscles in problem areas. As the treatment takes effect over the next day or so, the muscles continue to relax. Botox® Cosmetic and/or Dysport® diminish or erase facial wrinkling. You will look in the mirror and beam when you see the amazing results.

Once you see and live with your new look, you may want to explore some other anti-aging treatments available at MetroDerm. Besides Botox® Cosmetic and/or Dysport®, there are injectable fillers for the lips and naso-labial folds. Skin resurfacing treatments such as microdermabrasion and microneedling can even skin tone, fade scars, and encourage collagen growth. Lasers boost collagen and treat facial redness. All these procedures are quick and non-surgical. Dr. Nahai will help you decide which ones would be most beneficial for your skin type and condition.

Dr. Nahai wants you to look your best. In fact, there is a licensed aesthetician on staff at MetroDerm who can design a custom skin-care regimen for you that includes medical-grade products and other effective aesthetic treatments such as facial peels. Summer Vacation: The Perfect Time to acquire Flawless Ears

photo of a beautiful young woman looks at her ears in front of the mirrorIt’s summer. Yes it is. It’s that time when thoughts drift to the beaches and backyard barbecues. The trip to the mountains.

It’s also when kids of all ages, pre-teen and teens alike, have free time on their hands. A whole summer’s worth.

But this time off can be put to good use. Because ears frame the face, and, since the ear is fully grown by age 5, there may be pre-teen, teen or college age kids out there who have been dissatisfied with the appearance of their ears for years. Listen up. There is help. Dr. Farzad R. Nahai at the Center for Plastic Surgery at MetroDerm P.C. in Atlanta, Georgia, offers Otoplasty and Earlobe Repair procedures that will improve your self-image. And it can be done now. In your time off from school.

Otoplasty

Cosmetic plastic surgery of the external ear, known as Otoplasty, is a procedure to change the shape, position or size of the ears.

You are a candidate for this elective surgery generally if you feel your ears stick out too far or if you feel your ears are too large for your head. Or if your ears are deformed due to an accident or birth defect. The procedure takes about two hours. The improvement in appearance is immediate and permanent. The healing period is from two to six weeks. See the connection to summer vacation?

Earlobe Repair

If you have been following the fashion trends and wearing earrings or gauges your earlobe may be stretched to the point where cosmetic surgery is needed. Or you may have worn heavy earrings for so long that the lobe is stretched and distorted. That’s where Earlobe Repair surgery comes into play.

Earlobe repair and reduction can correct tears that may lead to infection and improper healing. But, don’t despair. In most cases, patients who undergo earlobe repair are able to continue wearing pierced earrings after their earlobes heal.

Earlobe Repair surgery is a relatively minor surgery that requires only local anesthesia. The procedure typically requires only about 20 minutes per ear. In most cases, tissue does not need to be removed, unless the skin has already begun to heal.

Dr. Farzad R. Nahai, a board-certified plastic surgeon, and his team can repair any type of earlobe disfigurement as well as aesthetic alterations including earlobe size reduction.

Time is ticking away. Don’t let the summer slip by without acting. Schedule a consultation today with Dr. Nahai at The Center for Plastic Surgery at MetroDerm, P.C. to see what Dr. Nahai can do for you.  The Center serves patients from all over Atlanta including Sandy Springs, East Cobb, and Alpharetta.

Teen Rhinoplasty: Reshape Your Nose Before College

photo of a beautiful young woman with white smile and teeth between friends in the street

The high school years are full of discoveries for teens. New subjects are introduced, experimentation takes place, and learning abounds. Exploring new aspects of the world can lead to self-examination. Many teens come to the conclusion that they are unhappy with the size or shape of their nose during these years. Some teens have discovered difficulty with breathing and are anxious to get the condition remedied. Others wish to achieve facial balance by reducing the size or changing the shape of their nose. Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a “nose job,” is one of the most-requested procedures for teens. Many want to have this procedure before going to college.

There are numerous reasons individuals consider rhinoplasty surgery:

  • Hump nose
  • Hook nose
  • Crooked nose
  • Injured nose
  • Difficulty breathing

Sometimes a specific area of the nose is the concern:

  • The tip of the nose
  • The size of the nostrils
  • The bridge of the nose

Since the nose is such a prominent feature, it’s important to choose an experienced, highly-qualified surgeon. Farzad R. Nahai, MD, in Atlanta, GA, is a board-certified plastic surgeon who is committed to delivering superior results for his patients. You are in excellent hands with Dr. Nahai and his highly-trained team at The Center for Plastic Surgery at MetroDerm, P.C.

Consultations with teenagers and their parents are critical to the success of the procedure. At this important meeting, Dr. Nahai discusses the risks and benefits of the procedure. He knows how to initiate honest communication and dialogue to make sure the teen is mature enough to handle the surgery and is doing it for the right reasons.

Dr. Nahai discusses every aspect of rhinoplasty surgery and recovery with his teenage patients and their guardians to make sure everyone has realistic expectations for the outcome of the procedure. Some individuals believe that reshaping their nose will transform their lives, make them more popular, or make them look like a famous person. These are examples of unrealistic expectations that need to be addressed.

Surgical alterations do not change a person’s temperament or personality. Rhinoplasty candidates must understand that self-development is ongoing throughout the teen years and that teenage rhinoplasty should be viewed as stepping stone to help a young person evolve and flourish. Dr. Nahai loves to help teens become the best they can be.

When examining teenagers to determine whether the time is right for rhinoplasty, Dr. Nahai conducts a thorough physical examination of the facial bones, septum, and cartilage. He must determine whether the teen’s bones have completed growing. Readiness varies between the ages of 15 and 19. Besides the physical exam, Dr. Nahai studies the patient’s medical history carefully. The time must be right in order to avoid possible revision surgery at a later date. After this thorough assessment, the teen and his/her family can make an informed decision about whether to undergo surgery.

Part of the pre-surgery discussion should be about cost. Generally, health insurance does not pay for plastic surgery. In some cases, it may cover some or all surgical costs if there is a medical reason for the operation. At any rate, be sure you fully understand what costs you will be responsible for. Dr. Nahai’s office can give you information about financing options for cosmetic surgery.

School vacations are a good time to schedule rhinoplasty, which is an outpatient procedure. Sometimes after the surgery Dr. Nahai places soft packing in the patient’s nostrils and places a splint on the nose to keep the bones stable for healing. There is some pain, and Dr. Nahai will discuss pain management with you. Cold compresses are the key to keep swelling and bruising to a minimum. The splint is removed after approximately one week. During recovery, the patient must rest and follow Dr. Nahai’s post-surgical instructions to a “T.”

Patience is important after rhinoplasty. The results are not instantaneous. Dr. Nahai will work with you to determine when it is safe to resume sports and other strenuous activity. The patient must agree to give the surgery time to heal.

Bruising and swelling are a normal part of the recovery process. It gradually fades; some swelling will remain and diminish over the next several weeks. Teenage skin heals quickly and smoothly, and the results last a lifetime.

If you or a teenage member of your family is considering plastic surgery, call the office of Dr. Farzad R. Nahai to schedule an appointment. Dr. Nahai is a caring individual and a skilled surgeon. His office is convenient to all locations in metro Atlanta and centrally located in the Southeast. Check “rhinoplasty” off your back to school list for this fall.

From the Desk of Dr. Farzad R. Nahai: Eyelift Surgery in the Office? Yes we can.

Benefits of Eyelift Surgery Are Numerous

photo of a woman's face before and after blepharoplastyEyelift surgery, or blepharoplasty, is one of the most common procedures I perform. Aging takes a toll on the eyes. The thin skin of the lids sags and the result is a sleepy look. If you think about the majority of your day-to-day interactions, most people look at your eyes while conversing. Blepharoplasty can rid you of that sleepy look by surgically removing lax skin, fat pads, and bags under the eyes. The benefits of the eyelift are numerous.

Blepharoplasty Can Be Done In the Office

For a procedure on a comparatively small area, there is a lot of “bang for the buck” so to speak. Many of my patients are pleasantly surprised to hear that eyelid surgery– both upper and lower– can often be done in the office with some mild oral sedatives and local numbing medicine. For patients who would rather not go to the operating room, this is a great option. We can keep you comfortable in a safe environment, and you can have your eyelids done under mild sedation. You know something is going on, but you don’t feel it because the area is numbed and you are sedated. In fact, most patients doze into a light sleep during the procedure.

The Operating Room Option

If you feel like doing the procedure in the office is just not for you, we still have the option of doing the procedure in the operating room with general anesthesia.

Financing Options Exist

Credit terms are available under the CareCredit program. Under some conditions, a portion of the eyelid procedure may be covered by your insurance depending on the severity of the upper eyelid heaviness. If you are curious about eyelid surgery, please come in and see me at The Center for Plastic Surgery at MetroDerm for a consultation.

Blepharoplasty is one of many plastic surgery procedures performed by Dr. Farzad Nahai in Atlanta, GA. His office is conveniently located to serve patients throughout the metro Atlanta area. If you are ready to look alert and refreshed, make an appointment to talk with Dr. Nahai about an eyelift procedure.

Liposuction Now and You’re Ready for Swim Suit Season

photo of woman in bathing suit at the edge of a pool | liposuctionSummer, a.k.a. swim suit season, is right around the corner. If you have tried diet and exercise and still have areas of localized fat that make you unhappy, you may be a candidate for liposuction, a popular cosmetic surgery procedure for women and men.

Liposuction Is Not a Treatment for Obesity

Individuals who are at or near their optimal weight and are in good health should consider making an appointment at The Center for Plastic Surgery at MetroDerm, P.C. in Atlanta, GA, where Dr. Farzad R. Nahai, MD, has performed hundreds of liposuction procedures on patients. During the consultation, Dr. Nahai will evaluate your overall health and discuss the benefits and risks of liposuction with you. It’s important to be realistic and keep in mind that liposuction is not a method of weight loss. Rather, it is a body-contouring procedure.

Dr. Nahai uses liposuction to successfully treat several areas of the body:

  • Chest
  • Cheeks and chin
  • Arms, neck, and back
  • Abdomen and waist
  • Thighs, hips, and buttocks
  • Inner Knee
  • Calves and ankles

Dr. Nahai is a board-certified plastic surgeon who is skilled in performing liposuction. When discussing the procedure, he will evaluate your physical condition and the types of fat stored in your body:

  • Subcutaneous fat, which lies just under the skin, responds well to liposuction.
  • Visceral fat, which is packed around the organs, cannot be removed using liposuction. It can only be reduced by weight loss and exercise.

If you are a candidate for surgery, Dr. Nahai will describe the procedure, the aftercare, and the recovery process patiently and thoroughly. All of your concerns will be addressed and your questions answered.

The surgery is done on an outpatient basis and takes 1-4 hours depending on the extent of the area to be treated. Dr. Nahai will discuss your options for anesthesia at a pre-op meeting.

There are several accepted techniques used to remove fat cells:

  • Tumescent liposuction
  • Ultrasound-assisted liposuction
  • Power-assisted liposuction
  • Laser-assisted liposuction

Dr. Nahai is current on all the latest procedures and will choose the ones perfectly suited for your needs. To begin the process, he makes a series of small incisions and inserts a thin tube which is used to dislodge and “vacuum” the excess fat.

After surgery, you will wear compression garments to hold the tissues in place and reduce swelling and bruising. Liposuction causes minimal scarring.

As the swelling diminishes and the newly-contoured features come into focus, patients are thrilled with the results. The patient’s self-image is improved, and the struggle is where it should be—in the past. If you maintain your weight and live a healthy lifestyle, the proportions of your body will remain unchanged.

Liposuction is a procedure that can make a dramatic difference in your life. With those bumpy areas taken care of, clothing options will be unlimited, and you will wear a bathing suit with new confidence this summer.

Dr. Nahai at The Center for Plastic Surgery at MetroDerm, P.C. is a phone call away, and he can make your aesthetic dreams come true. Call today to set up an appointment to see what liposuction can do for you.

His office is conveniently located to serve all of metro Atlanta, GA, including Alpharetta, Buckhead, Sandy Springs, Brookhaven, Intown, and Roswell.

Benefits of Natural Rhinoplasty Results

From the Desk of Dr. Farzad R. Nahai: The Benefits of Natural Rhinoplasty Techniques

Many patients come to my office asking to have their nose changed.  Often I hear requests for removing a hump and making the tip smaller.  In some cases I am asked to improve on a previously done nose job which often requires rebuilding the nose to some degree.  Plastic surgeons have learned a lot since the days of the aggressive and overdone rhinoplasties of the 1980’s.  Those procedures often led to an overdone ‘plastic’ appearance that was not only too small but also risked secondary deleterious functional changes like difficulty breathing.  Many of my patients are seeking natural rhinoplasty results that are balanced with the entire face and this is my preferred route as well.  A well done rhinoplasty should only be known to the surgeon and the patient, meaning that unless you tell someone you had something done they would not be able to figure it out.  A well done rhinoplasty should make your nose become a less dominant feature on your face, meaning that attention will first go to your eyes and lips before your nose is noticed.  A future post will cover how digital imaging is used to help plan a rhinoplasty.  Thank you for reading.

Dr. Nahai recently served as a moderator, speaker, and organizer of the 25th Annual Symposium and Exhibition of the Foundation for Facial Aesthetic Surgery.

Make Me Breathe Better!

Rhinoplasty can both improve the appearance of your nose and the breathing through your nose.  There are several common reasons why you may have difficulty breathing through your nose; a deviated septum, traumatic injury,  enlarged internal components, and internal or external valve collapse.  Fortunately all of these issues can be addressed at the time of a nose job.  Sometimes due to the natural way that your septum developed it can have a severe curvature or warp that can totally block or partially block your nasal airways.  The septum is like a rudder on a ship, if deviated can be the cause of a crooked nose.  Trauma to the nose can cause an injury to the bone and/or cartilages that weakens, collapses, or severely deforms them resulting in blocked nasal passages.  The internal valve is like a tent that keeps the middle part of the nose open (much like a breath right strip) and the external valve is the structural part that keep your nostrils open.  All of these components of the nose can  be corrected during rhinoplasty with specific techniques that can improve your nasal breathing.  These procedures that improve the function of your nose are often covered by insurance. –FRN

When to Start Using injectables

From the desk of Dr. Nahai: When to start using injectables

Injectables like botox and fillers are incredibly popular and effective ways to improve your appearance and combat (and sometime even prevent) the signs of aging.  The average age of someone who tries botox or fillers for the first time is their early forties.  I tell patients that the right time is when you are ready and want to improve a certain feature on your face.  It may be because make up can no longer manage the area or you have come to the point where a feature  bothers you enough to try something.  When used before wrinkles set in, botox can even lessen the formation of creases and lines in the forehead and around the eyes.  When done well, fillers and toxins can be tailored to your needs and treatments can be individualized for a natural look.  For first time patients I recommend going conservative and starting with modest interventions as there is always the opportunity to do more later down the road.  This way you can keep looking natural, just a bit refreshed and younger.  Injectables can also be a great way to improve your appearance when you are thinking about surgery but are just not ready yet.

Dr. Farzad R. Nahai’s approach to his patients is based on each individual’s needs and goals. He keeps up with the latest advancements in his field. He looks for and studies innovative surgical techniques and aesthetic treatments and works with his patients to find the safest and most effective solutions for their aesthetic needs. Dr. Nahai is a true artist who enjoys helping his patients feel and look their best.
